A memorial service for former Paris resident Carroll R. Bigham of Sandy Springs, Ga., was conducted at 4 p.m. April 29 at Mount Vernon Presbyterian Church in Sandy Springs, where he was a ruling elder, Sunday school teacher, church historian and a choir member for more than 40 years.

Bigham, 81, died April 24, 2007, at his residence after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

The body was cremated.

His wife of 59 years Helen Chandler Bigham survives.

He was a son of the late the Rev. W. Marvin and Grace C. Bigham and spent his youth in Paris.

He was a 1946 graduate of Georgia Tech University, where he was in the Navy V-12 program and received his naval commission. He worked as a structures engineer for Lockheed Georgia for 32 years, retiring in 1986.

He also leaves two daughters: Gail Williams and Linda (Pete) Thomas; one sister: Barbara Simons of Murray; two brothers: Perry (Evelyn) Bigham of Mount Home, Ark., and Bill (Wanda) Bigham of Montgomery, Ala.; four grandchildren: Kelly (Kristen) Williams, Clay (Carla) Williams, Travis (Lindsay) Thomas and Emily Thomas; and four great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, 1925 Century Blvd. NE #10, Atlanta 30345 or to the Mount Vernon Presbyterian Church music fund.
