Former Parisian John Adams Hurdle died April 14, 1986 in Merritt Island, Florida.

Born September 10, 1925, Hurdle was a son of the late James William Hurdle, Sr. and Kate Adams Hurdle.

Hurdle was a U.S. Marine and fought in the South Pacific, was wounded twice during invasions of Japanese-held islands, receiving two Purple Hearts for wounds in two of those battles.

Hurdle's Merritt Island construction company built a major part of Merrit Island from swamps as the NASA space program grew at Cape Canaveral.
For several years he was mayor of Brevard County, Florida.

He is survived by two brothers: James W. Hurdle ('41) and M.F. Hurdle ('50); two sisters: Virginia Jo Hurdle Wall ('45) and Amanda Hurdle Hailey ('52), both of Paris.
