Charles "Chick" King ~ Obituary

The funeral service for Charles Gilbert “Chick” King of Paris will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Ridgeway Funeral Home.

Trent Bullock and Larry Simmons will officiate. Burial will be in Palestine Cemetery in west Henry County.

Chosen as pallbearers are Kyle Bugg, Kevin Cagle, Colter Sherrod, Ray Taylor III and Harry and Bobby King.

Visitation is set from 4-8 p.m. today and after 10 a.m. Thursday.

King, 81, died Monday, July 9, 2012, at Henry County Medical Center.

His wife, Rosemary Parkhill King, survives. They were married on Sept. 26, 1986.

Born in Paris on Nov. 10, 1930, he was a son of the late Fred and Elsie Neese King.

King was a member of First Baptist Church, where he was an usher. He also was a member of Paris Masonic Lodge 108. He worked for Tennessee Culvert Co. for 19 years in Nashville and later owned West Tennessee Culvert Co. in Paris. He was a truck driver for Houston Trucking Co. and later a self-employed truck driver.

He attended Memphis State University before playing Major League Baseball for the Detroit Tigers, Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals from 1951-1961. Locally, he coached American Legion Baseball for 17 years and Little League Baseball for several years.

In addition to his wife, he leaves two sons: Charles Richard “Dickie” King of Paris and James A. (Jeanne) King of Murfreesboro; one stepdaughter: Teresa (Rickey) Matheny of Paris; two grandchildren: Amy King Cagle and Kristy King Bugg, both of Murfreesboro; two step-grandchildren: Melissa Matheny Taylor and Julie Matheny Sherrod, both of Paris; and seven great-grandchildren.

He also was preceded in death by a stepson: Tony (Angie) Horn; and six brothers: Lawrence, Baxter, Billy, Leo, Brandon and Harold King.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 313 N. Poplar St., Paris.
