Kay Parish ~ Obituary

Longtime Maplewood Baptist Church secretary Kay Parish, 67, of Paris died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2011, at her residence after a long battle with cancer.

She was married on Feb. 23, 1963, to Curtis Leroy Parish, who survives.

Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Maplewood Baptist Church.

Corey Cain and Paul Veazey will officiate. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery.

Named as pallbearers are James Bucy, Steve Clendenin, Gary Dunn, Jimmy Barrett, Kenny Cook and Dwayne Mathis.

Honorary pallbearers will be Stacy Cox, Clint Barrett and Gordon Owen.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Ridgeway Funeral Home and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

Born May 21, 1943, in Paris, she was the daughter of Eva Pennington Lee of Paris and the late J.D. Lee.

Parish was a member of Maplewood Baptist Church for 51 years and retired after serving as the church’s secretary for 43 years. She also was a Sunday school teacher in ladies classes for more than 40 years and had led ladies Bible studies since 1977.

She also leaves one daughter, Sonya (Michael) Hopkins of Hermitage; one son, Curt (Nancy) Parish of Jackson; one brother, Stephen (Pat) Lee of Bonita Springs, Fla.; four grandchildren: Kacy Coble of Memphis and Kailee, Abigail and Zachary Hopkins, all of Hermitage;

Her mother-in-law, Billie Parish of Paris; three aunts: Marie Methling and June Gibbs, both of Illinois, and Ann Carlson of Ohio; and two nieces: Alicia Lee of Australia and Cindy Lee of Pine Island, Fla.

She also was preceded in death by a nephew: Casey Carver.
