The funeral service for retired Henry County Emergency Medical Services technician
Ralph Dale Roaten of Paris will be at 2 p.m. Friday at McEvoy Funeral Home.

The Rev. Bill Elkins, pastor of Bethesda United Methodist Church, and a brother-in-law, the Rev. Claude Smithmier will officiate. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Chosen as pallbearers are Paul Wall, Don Thompson, Tom Beasley, Harold Bass Jr., Steve Jeffries and Dickie Bomar.

Honorary pallbearers will be Alex Herbison, Ross Wimberley, Eddie Krause, M.L. Bailey and Harold Bass Sr.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday and after noon Friday.

Roaten, 64, died Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2012, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Huntingdon.

His wife, Laurice Smithmier Roaten, survives. They were married on March 6, 1981.

Born Sept. 29, 1947, in Paris, he was a son of the late John James Roaten and Bennie Duluth Helms Roaten.

Roaten was a member of Bethesda United Methodist Church and Springville Masonic Lodge 130. He was a life member of the Henry County Rescue Squad, an avid fisherman and a guide for Buchanan Resort.

Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter: Gretchen (Daniel) Moncier of Gadsden; one son: John (Amber) Roaten of Puryear; a sister-in-law: Dorothy McDaniel Syk.es of Paris; four grandchildren: Ava, Natalie and Lucas Moncier and Caleb Roaten; and three nieces: Karen Robertson, Stacy (Robert) Hudgins and Rachel (Brian) Ball, all of Paris.

He also was preceded in death by three brothers: Nalon Roaten, James Simpson Roaten and Lester McDaniel.
