Henry County native and homemaker Carnell Hill Schmittou, 90, of Birmingham, Ala., died Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2014 at her home in Vincent, Ala., following a period of declining health.

Her funeral will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at McEvoy Funeral Home, with the Rev. Mark Weldon and Dale Gallimore officiating. A graveside service will follow in Maplewood Cemetery.

Born May 10, 1934, in Osage, she was a daughter of the late James Porter Hill and Mary Elizabeth Compton Hill.

Her husband, Odis Hilton Schmittou, preceded her in death. They lived on Action Road in Birmingham for most of their 63-year marriage and attended Rocky Ridge Cumberland Presbyterian Church. They were married Feb. 14, 1945.

A family member said she had many talents, including sewing and other needle crafts, painting, flower arranging and culinary arts.

She leaves two daughters: Phyllis Loggins of Vincent and Jennifer Weldon of Hoover, Ala.; two grandchildren: Alexandria Caroline Nelson of Vestavia, Ala., and Ryan Smith of Charleston, S.C.; one great-grandchild: Emma Caroline Nelson of Vestavia; and one brother: Gerald Porter Hill of Nolensville.

She also was preceded in death by two brothers: James Roy Hill and Guy Edwin Hill; and two sisters: Mildred Elenor Austin and Margaret Reptowski.
