Former Paris resident and longtime
legal secretary Mary Porter Stiles, 89, of Chattanooga died Monday, November
18, 2013. A graveside service is planned at 11:45 a.m. Thursday in Maplewood Cemetery, with Robert Martin officiating. Visitation will be from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church, where she was a lifelong member and had sung in the choir. Born July 18, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Dudley Porter Sr., a one-time Paris attorney, and Mary Bolling Porter. Her husband, Charles H. Stiles died in 1959. She also was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution, United Daughters of the Confederacy, Colonial Dames of the 17th Century, Daughters of the American Colonists and a former member of the Paris Garden and Janusette Delphian clubs. She was a descendant of Tennessee Gov. James D. Porter and great-granddaughter of J. D. C. Atkins. A family member said she loved her Lord and served him in many ways with her “beautiful voice.” She leaves longtime family friend and caregiver: Fred Joyce and special friend Anne Crosswy. A brother, Dudley Porter Jr., preceded her in death. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, Paris. |
