Former Paris resident Guy Charles Walker, 81, of Hopkinsville, Ky., died of cancer early today, March 7, 2013, at Covington Convalescent Center in Hopkinsville.

His wife, Faye Walker, survives.

His funeral is tentatively planned at 2 p.m. Saturday at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home in Madisonville, Ky. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Madisonville. Visitation will be held Friday.

A Henry County native, he was born Nov. 29, 1931, in the New Boston community, a son of the late B.J. and Iva Walker.

Walker was a member of the undefeated 1949 Grove High School football team, where he was listed as a quarterback. He was self-employed most of his career, but also worked at Plumley Companies and Henry Farmer’s Co-op. He was a member of First Christian Church in Paris.

He also leaves two sons: Jay (Debbie) Walker of Paris and Buddy Cardwell of Madisonville; four daughters: J’nese Curdis and Paige (Shaun) Higdon, both of Owensboro, Ky., and Janet Walker and Kelly Miller, both of Madisonville; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home in Madisonville, Ky. He will be buried in Madisonville.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. today and after noon Saturday.

A sister, Jean (E.A.) Cloar of Paris, was not mentioned in the information given for Walker’s obituary.

Memorials may be made to the Hopkins County (Ky.) Relay for Life.
