Two HCHS seniors will receive honors
from Hall of Fame

Henry County High School seniors Jennifer
Laird and Daniel Cathey received medallions to commemorate their inclusion in the
Students Hall of Fame at the April 21, 2005 Hall of Fame banquet at the Elks Lodge.Laird,
the daughter of Grant and Debbie Laird of Puryear, is a threesport star at HCHS. She is
a four-year member of the Lady Patriots softball and soccer program and played basketball
all three years she has attended classes at HCHS.

She was named a captain of both the soccer and basketball teams this year.
Laird is a two-time All-District 10-AAA performer in soccer and was named the Lady
Patriots Most Valuable Player at last falls soccer banquet.
She has won numerous team awards including The Post-Intelligencers Academic Award
and is
currently ranked first in her graduating class academically.
A member of the homecoming royalty court, Laird is president of the Student Council and
president of the Science Club.
She is a social chair in the National Honor Society while participating in EFFORT
Scholars, Math Club, Aspire Team, Patriot Pals and Key Club at HCHS.
She has been a photographer and posed as an elf at Pictures with Santa for Project
Graduation and a worker at Supper at Rhea Elementary School.
She helps with Relay for Life activities and been a counselor at soccer camp. She is a
member of the Catholic Youth Organization.
Cathey is the son of Amy and Marty Cathey of Paris. He recently accepted a scholarship to
attend and play soccer at Union University in Jackson.
He is a team captain for the Patriot soccer team and made the All-District 1O-AAA Team
last season. He was the Patriots offensive player of the year and won the Mr. Hustle
award while also making the Best of the West All-Tournament team last season.
He played football for the Patriots and earned one Player of the Week honor.
Cathey has received high honors for his academic work at HCHS. He serves in several school
clubs including French, Math, Calculus, Business Professionals of America, Patriot Pals
and National Honor Society.
He sings with the Madrigals and has been named All-West Choral,
sang at the Heritage Music Festival and performed at the Solo and Ensemble programs.
Cathey attends First United Methodist Church where he is a youth service leader, a
Scripture reader in congregational services and works with youth mission.
He helps with the Helping Hand radio charity auction, works at Eiffel Tower Day, has been
a volunteer assistant with children of Harrison Meadows complex and is a volunteer referee
for youth soccer for five years. |
