STUDENTS  SPORTS  HALL  OF   FAME

Hall of Fame honors student-athletes

A male and female student from each of the Paris and Henry County schools that sponsor athletic teams will be honored at Friday’s 6:30 p.m. Paris-Henry County Sports Hall of Fame banquet set for the Paris Convention Center, 1510 E. Wood St.

Students are selected to receive the award by being outstanding athletes but also showing the qualities of leadership, good citizenship and dedication to their schools. The students must be high school seniors, freshmen at Grove School or eighth-graders.

Those chosen to receive the Student Hall of Fame awards this year are: Lamar Theus and Kayla Porter, Henry County High School; Hunter Frey and Tianna Porter, Grove; Andrew Jelks and Illyaia McClain, Inman Middle School; Buck Gore and Brooke Rose, Harrelson School; Matthew Mullins and Olivia Looney, Henry School; and Robert Gaylord and Julia Reimold, Lakewood School.

Henry County High School

Lamar Theus

Theus is the son of Tanny Johnson of Paris.

A football and basketball standout in middle school, freshman and high school competition, Theus will be on a football scholarship at Murray State University this fall.

Theus played football and basketball at both Inman and Grove. At Grove, Theus was an All-District basketball player while also being honored by his peers as Most Athletic Boy. He won awards for most school spirit and best all-around.

At HCHS, Theus played basketball as a sophomore before turning all his attention to football where he was an All-Region pick for three years. He twice was on the All-West Tennessee team and made the All-State team as a junior and senior.

Theus has been honored as the Patriots’ Defensive Player of the Year, named a team captain and was presented the Lions Club’s Most Outstanding Player Award earlier this year.

Off the playing field, he has been a Murray State mentor for four years, a member of the Guy Force and a helper with the Special Olympics.

Kayla Porter


Porter is the daughter of Fred and Sherry Porter of Henry.

She began playing athletics at Henry. She has played both basketball and soccer in high school.

Porter gave up basketball after her sophomore season and has been a standout defender for the Lady Patriot soccer team for four years. She earned two All-District 10-AAA Tournament selections while twice being named the district’s Most Valuable Defensive Player.

She was named to the All-State team team as a senior and will be playing soccer at Lambuth University this fall.

Outside of athletics, Porter has been active as an Effort Scholar, a Murray State mentor and with the National Honor Society. She has been in clubs like the Interact Club, Spanish Club, Business Professionals of America and Future Business Leaders of America.

Grove School

Hunter Frey


Frey is the son of Rod and Lyn Frey of Paris.

Frey began competing in school athletics at Inman. At Grove, he played guard on the freshman basketball team.

He is also a member of the HCHS baseball team, starting at both second base and shortstop this season in helping the Patriots to a 26-5 record and the District 10-AAA tournament championship. He went 3-0 as a pitcher for the Patriots’ junior varsity team.

Frey is a Beta Club member and participates in the Future Business Leaders of America.

Tianna Porter

Porter is the daughter of Richard and Helga Porter of Paris.

She played basketball at Inman. This year as a freshman, Porter was a member of HCHS varsity teams in basketball, volleyball and track.

A strong student, Porter is also a Beta Club member.

Inman Middle School

Andrew Jelks

Jelks is the son of Bill and Debbie Jelks of Paris.

He has played basketball and football for two seasons at Inman but has also been outstanding in many areas outside of athletics.

Jelks is a Top Ten student while being a member of Inman’s Beta Club and Watchdog programs. He is also active in chorus.

Illyaia McClain

McClain is the daughter of Rodney and Yevette Littleton of Paris.

A two-sport standout at Inman, McClain enjoys playing both basketball and softball.

She is a consistent honor roll student, a member of the Beta Club and the Inman Watchdog program.

Harrelson School

Buck Gore

Gore is the son of Ted and Gay Gore of Puryear.

He has played soccer, basketball and football while at Harrelson. His favorite sport is baseball, however. In baseball, Gore has been Little League All-Star while also competing on the Redbirds travel team. He will be a member of the Heat travel team this summer and compete in Babe Ruth baseball.

A Top Ten student, Gore is in the Beta and Leo clubs at Harrelson while also being a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Brooke Rose

Rose is the daughter of Todd and Teresa Rose of Puryear.

She has been a starter in soccer and basketball the past two seasons at Harrelson. She served as a captain for the Lady Hawks’ soccer team this year.

A straight-A student, Rose competes on the Harrelson academic team. She is a Beta and Leo club member. She enjoys 4-H activities, particularly the Junior Livestock Steer program.

Henry School

Matthew Mullins

Mullins is the son of Mark and Rosemary Mullins of Henry.

He is a three-year member of the Pirates’ football team and has played two years on the Henry soccer team.

An active member of the Henry band, Mullins has competed on the school’s academic team.

Olivia Looney

Looney is the daughter of Steve and Kathy Looney of Henry.

She has played softball, soccer and basketball at Henry. She was an All-River Conference selection in basketball and made the league’s All-Tournament team.

Outside of athletics, Looney is in the Ambassador, Beta and Leo clubs. She is on the school’s academic team and is secretary of the 4-H club. She also has been active in past years in ASA softball, CAPS basketball and AYSO soccer.

Lakewood School

Robert Gaylord

Gaylord is the son of Mitzi Gaylord and Robert Gaylord.

He has played soccer, football and basketball at Lakewood but likes basketball best. He hopes to be chosen for the freshman team at Grove and continue playing in high school and perhaps college.

Gaylord enjoys fishing, ATV riding, paintball and hunting when not in school.

Julia Reimold

Reimold is the daughter of Pete and Tricia Reimold of Buchanan.

She has played softball and soccer at Lakewood. She also has been a cheerleader at the school. She was named to the All-County team in softball while in the seventh grade.

Reimold has played travel soccer for four years for the Paris Danger and West Kentucky Futball Club. She has six years experience with the Universal Kentucky Cheer group in Murray.

She is in the Beta and Leo clubs. She won the Lakewood academic award twice for student athletes. A Top Ten student, she competes on the school’s academic team.
