Hall of Fames of any sort are
largely responsible for helping remember the greats of days that have
already gone by.
The Paris-Henry County Sports Hall of Fame is no different as it prepares to
induct the late Ras Bilbrey, Patricia Owens Dyer, George Atkins, Edward
Littleton and Roger “Beeter” VanDyke at its 6 p.m. July 21 banquet at the
Paris Convention Center on East Wood Street. Local businessman Jack Hays is
being presented the Distinguished Service Award that night.
While those names are blasts from our athletic pasts, the local Hall of Fame
also wants to honor the students of Henry County with Student Hall of Fame
awards. An eighth-grade girl and boy from Harrelson, Henry, Inman Middle and
Lakewood schools will be joined by freshmen honorees from Grove School and
seniors from Henry County High School in being honored at the banquet.
