Hall of Fame recognizes 12 student athletes:

Young athletes will receive their due recognition when the Paris-Henry
County Sports Hall of Fame honors a female and male athlete from each county
school that plays sports at the 6:30 p.m. July 24 banquet at the Paris
Convention Center, 1510 E. Wood St.
Being chosen as student nominees to the Hall of Fame are: Cher’ron Teague
and Andrew Jelks, Henry County High School; Addie Cate and Shontel Thompson,
Grove School; Celia Hudson and Perry Atkins, Inman Middle School; Ashley
Collins and Thomas Thompson, Harrelson School; Victoria Page and Ben Wilson,
Henry School; and Darby Underwood and Javan Winders, Lakewood School.
The students will be recognized after the Hall of Fame inducts Kitty Allen,
Josh Archer, Jim Drexler, the late Richard Byars and the late Buddy Akers.
Also being honored that night will be longtime youth baseball organizer
Calvin Jones who will receive the Distinguished Service award.
Henry County High School
• Teague is the daughter of Ronald and Cecila Teague of Paris.
She enjoyed a stellar career playing girls’ basketball for the Lady
Patriots. A two-time All-District 10-AAA selection, Teague led the Lady
Patriots in scoring, rebounding and steals as a senior. She scored 1,060
points in her high school career to rank eighth on the Lady Patriots’
all-time scorers list.
In late April, Teague signed scholarship papers to play basketball at Bethel
University in McKenzie.
• Jelks is the son of Bill and Debbie Jelks. He is one of the most easily
recognized athletes in the county after helping the Patriot football team to
the Class 5A state championship last fall and accepting a scholarship to
play at Vanderbilt University in Nashville.
His honors include being a Mr. Football finalist, an All-State pick by the
Tennessee Sportswriters Association and a Dandy Dozen selection by the
Tennessean. He is a two-time All-District 10-AAA first-team selection, was
chosen for the district’s Most Valuable Offensive Lineman award twice and
was on the All-District Honor Roll as a junior and senior. He was also
chosen to the United States Army Combine First Team in 2010.
Jelks played basketball four years at HCHS. He was an All-District honorable
mention pick as a junior and won the team’s academic award three times.
A Top Ten student at HCHS as a junor and senior, Jelks was a Boys’ State
Delegate and a member of the National Honor Society as a junior and senior.
He participated in the Leo Club, FBLA, History Club and Patriot Pals. He
also took part in the youth group at First Baptist Church.
He received a Student Hall of Fame nomination as a freshman at Grove.
Grove
• Addie Cate is the daughter of Becky and Tom Cate. She played on the girls’
soccer team at HCHS and basketball as a freshman at Grove this past school
year.
Cate begin playing athletics while in fifth grade and continued at Inman.
• Thompson is the son of Phyllis and Dion Hilliard and Reggie and Christy
Thompson.
Last season, he suited up in football for both Grove and HCHS as a freshman.
He played basketball at Grove and was voted the school’s Most Athletic.
Before that he played at Inman where he was named All-District in basketball
and the Defensive Most Valuable Player in the football playoff’s semifinal
game as an eighth-grader. Thompson helped Inman win two West Tennessee
championships.
Inman
• Celia Hudson is the daughter of Ginny and John Hudson. She helped lead the
Lady Bulldogs’ softball team to the Area 5 championship while serving as
Inman’s pitcher and as an offensive catalyst.
Hudson played center on the Lady Bulldogs’ basketball team that also won the
Area 5 championship. She was named to the All-Area 5 team.
In the classroom, Hudson has attended the honors banquet and been recognized
as a Top Ten student in her class.
She is a member of the First Baptist Church youth group.
• Atkins is the son of Terri Lynn and Jeff Atkins.
He has played baseball, basketball and football while a student at Inman.
During the 2011-12 season, Atkins was named to the Area 5 All-Tournament
team in basketball.
Atkins helped the Inman football team win two West Tennessee championships
and two area championships in baseball.
An honor student, Atkins has served as an Inman Watchdog and is a member of
the First Baptist Church youth group.
Harrelson
• Collins played soccer and was a cheerleader at Harrelson.
She was named to the All-River Conference cheerleading squad and was an
All-County pick in soccer.
She is a Top Ten student while being on the math and social studies
competition team.
She is a member of the Leo, Beta, Stem and FCA clubs. She was nominated for
Miss Harrelson while being voted Most Likely to Succeed and Most Dependable.
She participates in 4-H.
• Thompson played baseball, basketball, football and soccer while in middle
school. He played on Hawks’ teams that won River Conference championships in
basketball and football the last two seasons.
He was an baseball all-star last summer with his team winning the state
championship.
He was nominated for Mr. Harrelson and voted the Most Athletic.
He is active in church and a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
Henry
• Page is the daughter of Jeff Page.
She played basketball, softball and soccer at Henry. She also participated
in cheerleading for two years.
A member of the school’s academic team, she had a combined GPA of 90.68 for
grades 6-8.
• Wilson is the son of Cindy and David Wilson.
He has been a three-year starter in basketball and football at Henry. He was
named to the All-River Conference team in both sports.
He began playing baseball in T-ball and was a member of the Henry County
middle school squad that placed second in the area tournament this spring.
Wilson has been involved in the Henry County 4-H trap shooting program since
the fourth grade. He has participated in the Junior Olympics shooting
competition three times. He was named the Rookie of the Year at the 2009
state competition in Clarksville.
He was named Henry’s Most Athletic this spring. He will play freshman
basketball at Grove next season.
Lakewood
• Underwood is the daughter of Liz and David Underwood.
She started playing athletics at age 5 in T-ball and began playing soccer at
age 7. She has played travel in softball with the Paris Lady Thunder, Xtreme
Kaos, Milan Heartbreakers, Jackson Lady Jaxx’ 97 and the Camden Tennessee
Crushers. At age 12, she played in the United States Fast Pitch Association
World Series in Panama City, Fla., with the Crushers placing seventh.
She has played softball and basketball for three years at Lakewood while
playing soccer for two seasons. All-River Conference player in both
basketball and softball, she has also been named to the All-Conference
tournament team in basketball.
She recently was chosen for the freshman basketball team at Grove and the
HCHS girls’ softball team.
• Winders is the son of Stephanie and Lance Winders.
He has played both football and soccer at Lakewood but is much more
recognized as to runner for the county’s middle school cross country team.
Winders ran cross country the last three years and won eight of his nine
meets as an eighth-grader while setting course records four times. He
finished 13th at the Tennessee Middle School Athletic Association state meet
to make the All-State team.
He also entered mile events and placed third at the Tennessee Middle School
Mile State championship with a time of 4:53.
He participates in the Beta Club, the Academic, the speech and drama and the
Healthy School teams at Lakewood. He also is a 4-H member.
Winders placed fifth in the 2012 University of Tennessee at Martin middle
school mathematics contest. Published:
