John Noble Wilford

John Noble Wilford is a 1951 Grove High School Graduate and earned his B. S. degree from the University of Tennessee in 1955. He received an M.A. from Syracuse University.

A science editor for the New York Times, Wilford is a two time Pulitzer Prize winner. The first in 1984 for his national reporting on science topics. The second Pulitzer in 1987 was shared with other New York Times reporters for their team reporting on the Challenger disaster.

In addition to the Pulitzers, Wilford has received two doctorates, two awards from the Aviation-Space Writers Association, the G.M. Loeb Achievement Award from the University of Connecticut, the National Space Club Press Award and the Westinghouse Science Writing Award.

Wilford has also been involved as editor or writer for eight books and is a visiting lecturer/professor at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and Princeton, Syracuse, Duke and Yale Universities.

Before joining the Times in 1965, Wilford worked for the Wall Street Journal and Time Magazine.
