This photo of Henry County teachers was taken in 1918 at the Henry County Courthouse.

Joe Routon (third row, second from right), was superintendent of county schools for more than 30 years. According to Stephanie Tayloe, Routon was dedicated to improving schools and supporting new models of education, and he also helped establish black schools and helped get laws passed for education.
