CLASS KNOCKER FOR 1917
By R. W. Routon

Ye whose natures still are sensitive,'
If there be such ones among us,
Make obscure your sensitive feelings.
Come lets make examination
Of ourselves as others see us,
Bear our knocks and be congenial.

First, we have old Thelma Hancock,
Whose fair face with paint is covered,
And her old friend, Christine Routon,

Who a man is always seeking,
And as one to talk who labors,
Lets accuse old Lexie Humphreys.

Mary Sue is still sarcastic.
Still possessed with pure sarcasm.
Eunice is too fat and chubby,
Ethel is so light and airy,
Seems as though it would be better
If they'd trade and both be medium.

Eva Steely gets excited
Just at any little trifle,
Clara Barton's not much better,
But when you excite Ed Jenkins,
Or get Lister animated,
You've aroused some new emotions
That were ne'er disturbed before.

We can't knock on Vergie Glasgow,
She's so tall, and so is Lillian,
That we'd need a high step-ladder
If we ever made our knocks effective.
Should we ever need a flagpole,
Fuqua would be just ideal.
Kate and Lucille are too noisy,
Edith is so quiet and gentle
You could never guess her presence.
Inza never knows her lessons,
Annie Dug is just as bad.

All the boys admire Lavinia,
She's the belle of "Seventeen ;"
Margaret Porter's so industrious,

And Roselle and Quay so good,
It would surely hurt our conscience
Ii we criticized severely,
Quay gets vexed at almost nothing,
But I hardly think she means it.

Fisher is our politician,
Looney is our daring chauffeur,
Though Claude really thinks he is,
Sometimes sleeps when he's on duty;
Many times Miss Newell's caught him,
Oft disturbed his peaceful slumbers.

Toler's too much like a Freshman,
Herron's very little better;
Both are fresh, but are Seniors,
And I guess that gives them prestige,
So we'll have to pass them by.

Edwin is our pretty boy,
Beautiful when in the dark;
Sadie is so frail and tender
We're afraid to knock on her,
For I fear she could not bear it;
Irene thinks she's some class poet,
Cannot write but does not know it.

Leslie May is always wise,
Speaks no word but always listens
While friend Ather gives opinion
From his universal knowledge.

Frank's a sport among the ladies,
Has hard luck but does not mind it.
Mary Lou is meek and gentle;
Robbie Paschall loves a Freshman,
'Tis a sin we cannot pardon.

I'll not knock upon the knocker,
For whene'er these knocks are read,
I'll get knocked on many times:
But if every one could realize
My opinion of the Seniors,
All would know^ that every knock-
Is a symbol of good will,
Symbol of good will and love.
