Class Poem

They saw them in their young array
  As each and every one came in,
Passed up the aisle, commencement day;
  Ready some, their young strength to lend
To help humanity attain
  Heights never reached before by men.

Behind them lie the years of learning,
  The ups and downs, the smile, the frowns,
The inexpressible yearnings!
  Friendships that have stood the rounds
And lived, while weaker ones were broken;
  Behind them lie disappointments
In deeds undone, thoughts unspoken,
  That joy to others might have lent.

Yet greater still than all regrets
  Are their memories of gladness-
Of dailey problems staunchly met,
  Of times they've stood the greater tests
And been rewarded, manifold-
  Memories of spreads and escapades,
Memories of hidden joys unroll,
  Memories of good records made.

Prepared, they stand, to join the throng
and help make the world one perfect song.
