THE FUTURIST 1938-39 SCHOOL YEAR |
FOOTBALL TEAMS |
FOOTBALL RESUME The Grove High Annual of 1939 is proud to present the Grove Blue Devils of 1938. The team of '38 will go down in the history of Grove School as being one of the best in the school's history. It will claim for its own the distinction of being the only UNDEFEATED AND UNTIED TEAM in the history of Grove's football. The Grove team of '38 was not developed in one year. It represents four years of tile hardest work imaginable between one coach and one group of boys. Four years ago Mr. Leonard Lackey walked on the field with as bewildered a group of freshmen as ever graced Grove's field. It is this group of boys that he welded into a team which simply refused to quit trying. Three years of crushing defeats and some wins were crowned with a final year in which all teams on Grove's schedule were defeated. A special paragraphical mention is certainly due, also, to Mr. Leo
Davis. Mr. Davis, joining the team in its fourth year, gave to both line and backfield a
spirit and a bag of tricks which certainly contributed highly to the success of the team. |
