Ina Vedah Butler ~ Obituary

Ina Vedah Butler, 89, of Paris Route 3, retired schoolteacher, died Thursday evening at Henry County Medical Center.

The funeral will be 1 PM Saturday at McEvoy Funeral Home with the Rev. Thomas Walker and Charles Orr of First Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Butler Cemetery in Weakley County. Visitation is 4-8 PM today and after 11 AM Saturday.

Named as pallbearers are George Atkins, Jim Cox, Larry Bell, Stanley Kemp, Gordon Owen and J. C. Lowry.

A Weakley County native, Miss Butler was born Feb. 4, 1901, daughter of the late William Harrison Butler and Augusta Atkins Butler. An elementary school teacher in Henry County and Paris city schools for 39 years, Miss Butler was a member of the Henry County Retired Teachers Association.

She was a member of First Baptist Church, where she formerly was active as a Sunday School Teacher in the junior department for many years. Also there, she had taught the TEL (Timothy, Eunice, Lois) Sunday school class for 18 years and was active in the Nettie Gammage Women's Missionary Union.

A graduate of Grove High School, she attended Bethel College at McKenzie and Murray Teachers College, now Murray State University. She also was a graduate of Union University at Jackson.

She was a member of Lakeway Garden Club and Crutchfield Lane Sewing Club.

Preceding her in death were a brother, George Thomas Butler on Sept. 1, 1926; a sister, Ruth Butler on Aug. 26, 1984; and a sister-in-law, Addie Cope Butler Daniel on Jan. 23, 1977.
