| Longtime National Guardsman Jewell
B. Melton Jr., 81, of Cottage Grove died Monday, June 18, 2012, in Paris. His wife, Nell Melton, survives. They were married on Feb. 24, 1990. A service, with full military honors, is planned at noon Friday at McEvoy Funeral Home. Paul Setlech will officiate. Cremation will follow the service. Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Routon, Sam Lemonds, Phillip Williams, Harry Cowan, Roland Parkhill, Doug Taylor, Dewey Ealey, Bill Oliver and Johnny Hutcherson. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday and after 10 a.m. Friday. Born Sept. 8, 1930, in Paris, he was the son of the late Jewell B. Melton Sr., and Velma Burns Melton. Melton served in the National Guard for 45 years. He was a member and past officer of the Elks Lodge and according to a family member enjoyed woodworking, fishing, traveling and spending time with his family. He also leaves one daughter: Melissa (John) Lipscomb of Atlanta; a stepdaughter: Fran (Jeff) Jolley of Palmersville; two stepsons: David (Amy) Hoskins and Rick (Mary) Hoskins, both of Springville; a half sister: Kathy (Sylvaine) Cooper of Greenfield; a half brother: Brad (Jeannie) Melton of Henry; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by a son: Randy Melton; a stepson: John Hoskins; and two grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Henry County Hospice, 311 E. Wood St., Paris. |
