Published: Tuesday, August 13, 2013 11:27 AM CDT Former Henry Countian Elizabeth Upchurch, 65, of Memphis died Sunday, Aug. 4, 2013, in Memphis. Her body was donated to science. A memorial service is planned from 2-5 p.m. Sept. 14 at Neshoba Unitarian Universalist Church in Cordova, where she was a member. Born Nov. 17, 1947, in Paris, she was a daughter of the late John and Mary Moody Upchurch. A 1966 Grove High School graduate, she earned a degree in education from the University of Tennessee at Martin. She held a master’s degree in counseling from Memphis State University. She worked for 34 years with Girl Scouts of America in Memphis as a trainer, program developer and other jobs. She was a professional sailor and airplane pilot, certified sailing trainer and loved to travel and pilot a plane. She leaves three sisters: Alice Warren of Nashville, Marilyn Tomlinson of Franklin and Frances Williams of Signal Mountain; and six nieces and nephews: Suzannah (Sandy Jones) Pogue of Boston, John L. Pogue of Nashville, Jonathan (Merissa) Tomlinson of Nashville, Andrew (Deni) Tomlinson of Franklin and Michael and Allison Fulghum, both of Chattanooga. Memorials may be Neshoba Unitarian Universalist Church, 7350 Raleigh La Grange Road, Cordova 38018. |
