| Max Williams, April 26, 1975 R. M. Williams was one of six businessmen killed in a private plane crash April 26, 1975 at Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. An executive with Stribling-Puckett Inc., a heavy equipment firm in Jackson, Mississippi, he was in a group returning from a tractor company convention when the plane crashed and burned shortly after takeoff. Born in Harlan, Kentucky, Williams was a standout football player for the Blue Devils. He earned a bachelor's degree in 1957 and a master's degree in business administration in 1961 from Mississippi State University. He worked for the Mississippi highway department for a year, spent three years as an Air Force navigator, and joined Caterpillar Tractor Co. in 1961. Funeral and burial were in Jackson, Mississippi. Survivors include his wife, the former Arlan Ann Kerkman of Burlington, Wisconsin and two children. |
